Comeback trailer Janet Evans, 40 and gunning for a 4th Olympics 16 years after her last time out, is singing the praises of Metamucil, a product containing psyllium fibre, helpful in lowering cholesterol.

May not seem the most obvious thing for the fittest of the fit to promote but Evans’ message is a strong and personal one as she does her bit for US “February Heart Health Month”.

According to the American Women’s Heart Foundation, eight million women in the US are currently living with heart disease. Having suffered two family losses due to heart attacks, Evans, back being coached in California by Mark Schubert, sees doing what it takes to be as healthy in life, not just sport, as a no-brainer.

Preparing for the Olympic trials in June, Evans, the 1988 triple Olympic champion who retained the 800m freestyle crown in 1992, told the media: “I couldn’t be more ready for this, and I don’t feel 40 at all! It’s not easy, but it’s really all about having the right attitude and taking care of my body. It’s the small steps you take every day that truly help make a difference, like taking Metamucil to increase the fibre in your diet and lower your cholesterol.”
