Young children need parents with them in the water or watching closely. Parents of youngsters can’t really be focused on magazines or chatting with friends while their children swim, but getting in the pool and splashing around can be fun and quickly, with enough exposure, most young children take to the water like fish.

Early swim lessons for children 1-4 years old has been associated with lower drowning rates and so finding a way to get your child in the water regularly makes swimming safer in the long run. It also seems that the older the child is when starting to swim, the more nervous he or she is about putting his or her head under and feeling comfortable in the water.
Teach your children to swim in your own backyard pool and protect them for life from “all” water (beaches, lakes, rivers, and neighborhood pools.)
